Those attending the March brunch were treated to a mix of Faith, Food, Fabulous Music and some seasonal Fun. The “seasonal Fun”, was our unique take on our Special Feature time. Instead of brining someone in, the attendees were challenged with a St. Patrick’s trivia game, created by Eileen Mahn, and played as table teams. The excited participants couldn’t contain themselves by shouting out the answers on several of the questions and laughter. The group of ladies sitting at the winning table were each treated to a handmade gift provided by Eileen. But everyone was a winner this month and left with a beautiful bag of treats! Trader Joes, Uptown location, generously donated brand name product to fill a take home bag for every attendee. Phyllis Chavez gave a brief presentation and provided “facts” about Trader Joe’s. Our singer, Natalie Wylie, sang like an angel accompanied by Donna Treece. The music lifted our spirits and set the stage for Sonya's talk. Sonya Lia Cleveland shared a moving testimony of her difficult walk on the path to finding her Faith and her purpose in her talk titled Under His Construction. Sonya and her husband, Chris, are a beautiful example of Ephesians 3;20 "Now for him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us." I hope you all can join us next month! What a blessing to hear from the Ageless Angels! They have recorded their last album and sang for us selections such as Sugartime and One Day At A Time. Then with lifted hearts Jennifer Smith brought some color into our lives by sharing with us her knowledge about how to add color to our homes. Helpful tips such as looking at the whole color strip to discover the undertones, and making sure to keep color temperatures the same, were shared with us. Then Barbara Mulvey shared her testimony, which is proof God has a sense of humor. We may know what we like/dislike and what we believe we want, BUT GOD knows better and everything works together to His glory and our lives are the better for it. A verse to learn is Hebrews 4:16 - Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. God is always there for us and just waiting on us to ask for His help.
Happy New Year! What a great brunch to ring in the new year with everyone. We had so much fun getting to hear from so many of our attendees about their businesses. What a way to add variety to our special feature time! We were also blessed by the beautiful singing voice of Cynthia Nagel who sang She Used to Be Mine and Thy Will. Despite technical difficulties the singing was worth the wait. Then Jennifer Smith spoke to us about a topic that I know is present is so many lives - the fear of inadequacy. She started her talk with a very important point, "Jesus came to give us LIFE, but Satan comes to kill, steal and destroy". She spoke about the pitfalls of people pleasing and the imposter syndrome. After sharing with us some examples from her own life she also gave practical ways to overcome the fear - Galatians 1:10. We need to remember that it is OK to say NO to something that may be a good thing to do, but isn't something WE need to Do. WE also need to speak the truth in LOVE. We need to remember that God knows all and is in control. We should do the best we can in a situation and what we believe He would want us to do, but we need to leave the consequences up to Him. Well our brunch sure did smell wonderful with the freshly cut flowers! A big thank you to Sonia Lia who shared with us about her non-profit, Under His Construction, as how opportunities such as flower arranging are changing the life of others. She also shared with us how to make a “flower cake” and allowed attendees to bid on some beautiful arrangements. We were also blessed by the musical styling of Bill Buttram, who sang “I’m gettin’ nuttin’ for Christmas”, and Rosalind Cooper whose voice is always so lovely to hear. Then what a powerful story Emily Firnstahl shared about the price of success. She shared her story of being robbed and her fear of never being enough and how that led to an eating disorder. While we may not all be able to relate to the events in her life, I think we can all admit to sometimes feeling inadequate. Emily will now tell you that true success is getting right with God in this life so you can be with Him in the next.
What a fun brunch we just had! I hope you all were able to attend. If you missed it be sure to ask someone who attended for a copy of their handout. Sharon Cook did a great job explaining just how different God made the minds of a man and a woman. She went on to explain how if we learn about these differences then we can work together to come together. In the photos below you can see some of the books that Ms. Cook recommends. Thank you to all who participated in making this year's Stonecroft fundraiser successful. Thank you to those who donated items for purchase and thank you to those who purchased the items. I hope you were able to get some great gifts and know how important your purchase can be to others. I truly enjoyed the delightful signing of Amy and Lauren. Jeanne Saxon gave us a wonderful story of forgiveness and how liberating that can be.
What a wonderful time had by all at the September brunch! The men's trio brought a smile to all the ladies' faces with their singing of "What's Cooking". Kelli Hulslander, from "your other closet" shared with us her vision for the store and how she loves customer/community relations. We even got a mini fashion show from some of the ladies who were wearing their treasures purchased from the store. We would also like to thank Leticia Chavez-Paulette for coming to speak to our group again. What powerful emotions she stirred from the audience as she shared the dramatic story of her redemption from drug addiction and a life of crime and how God has since blessed her life and ministry. Though she also reminded us that the consequences of our poor decisions don't disappear like magic. She continues to trust the Lord to heal and redeem members of her family who were affected by her former lifestyle. We were unable to obtain pictures for this month, but I hope you will all join us in October!
What a fun meeting that was! Singer Rosalind Cooper singing a medley from one of my favorite musicals, The King and I, was enjoyable and surprising to hear. Then the information from Vintage Market & Design I'm sure inspired many ladies to redecorate. Kay challenged the ladies to beat her to the store and I can't wait to go and learn how to paint instead of using fabric to reupholster my chairs. And of course we want to thank our wonderful speaker, Martha Speakman, for coming and sharing her heart with her speech and singing. What a beautifully talented lady! If you were able to attend I hope you feel truly blessed.
This past Wednesday we were all truly blessed to hear the music and words of Myra Green. She is such a gifted speaker with a true heart for sharing her love of God through music. I hope you were able to be apart of the program as she shared with us how much she loves the Lord and appreciates living in America. Her words were a true reminder of the freedom we have to worship God out in the open here in America and we should take advantage of that ability. We may seem like good people, but no one is good enough to be with God without His son Jesus leading us and loving us. May God bless Myra's ministry team as it goes and grows all over the United States.
What a wonderful fashion show! The ladies did a terrific job modeling the CATO fashions for us at this month's brunch. Ladies, you were fierce and sassy! A big 'THANK YOU' goes to all of our models and to Amy McKee, manager at the CATO store in the Four Hills Shopping Center. Be sure to check out all the pictures below! Another round of applause goes to our talented performer Wayne Pittman for his incredibly talented Moses portrayal. His rendition of "Some Enchanted Evening" left a few tears threatening to spill as some of us remembered days gone by. We hope he will come back again in the future and regale us with his wonderful voice. And last but not least a heartfelt 'Thank You' to Marti Peters for her moving talk on "Living my Life to Please the Wrong People." Not only are we blessed to have her as a regular attendee of our brunches, but her encouraging story will stay with many of us for a very long time.
